BRIAN HOLLAND, BRYAN WRIGHT, AND DANNY COOTS
Live from Buenos Aires Rivermont BSW-2233
Recorded "live" in 2014 before a packed house at the Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, pianists Brian Holland and Bryan Wright and drummer Danny Coots take listeners on a thrilling journey through the world of jazz, stride, boogie woogie, and ragtime. From showpieces by Willie "The Lion" Smith, James P. Johnson, and Fats Waller, to the elegant "classic" rags of Scott Joplin and Ford Dabney, to tangos and pop songs of the 1920s, it's a varied and engaging program full of toe-tapping rhythms, lilting melodies, and good fun! The accompanying 24-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed notes, and an introduction by ragtime legend Max Morath. 68 minutes.
To commemorate this special occasion, the musicians themselves (Brian Holland, Bryan Wright, and Danny Coots) also produced a companion 72-minute DVD, drawing on their own video footage as well as video shot by audience members during the live concerts. The playlist of the video DVD follows the CD tracklist exactly, with the added benefit of being able to see as well as hear the performances, however the DVD does not contain the 24-page booklet packaged with the audio CD. Several selections from the DVD may be viewed in their entirety below. NOTE: This DVD is formatted "All Regions" (Region 0) for use anywhere.
